Informed decision
We are dedicated to educating and empowering mothers and parents with the knowledge they need to balance their lifestyle choices with the health of their baby. Our resources aim to clarify common misconceptions and offer practical advice on how to safely incorporate alcohol into your life while breastfeeding.
The Basics
How long should I wait to breastfeed after drinking alcohol?
It is generally recommended to wait at least 2 hours per standard drink before breastfeeding to allow your body to metabolize the alcohol.
Can alcohol affect my breast milk supply?
Alcohol can temporarily reduce milk production, so it’s important to monitor your intake and stay hydrated.
Should I pump and dump?
Pumping and dumping does not speed up the elimination of alcohol from your body. Pumping for comfort or to maintain your milk supply is recommended if you are going to skip feedings, or will be away from baby for more than 4-5 hours, however, do not use the milk for feeding.
